ASSOCIATION OF INTERLEUKIN-6 AND INTERLEUKIN-10 LEVELS WITH SEVERE CONSEQUENCES OF STROKE ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA

Summary. The article presents the results of a study conducted to determine the relationship between the level of serum cytokines and the severity of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). To clarify the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of SAP, we assessed the serum levels of cytokines-IL-6 and IL-10 in 58 patients with SAP (19 in critical and 39 in non-critical condition), in the blood serum using flow cytometry. We observed a significant increase in the level of IL-6 and IL-10 in the blood serum of patients in critical condition. These cytokines were also associated with the need for mechanical ventilation and mortality, IL-6 showed AUC values above 0.7 for both variables and correlated with creatinine, sodium, and platelet levels. Conclusion: The results of the study in patients with stroke-associated pneumonia are similar and confirm previous observations regarding the involvement of IL-6 and IL-10 in the severity of pneumonia in patients with COVID-19. © 2025, Ministry of Health.
