Objective of the study is to identify the prospects for the development of digital sports and determine the extent to which physical activity affects the health of e-sports athletes. Methods and structure of the study. Physical education teachers from schools, colleges and universities (n=47) and students (n=397) took part in an interactive survey. Functional indicators: vital lung capacity, chest excursion and vital index were determined in e-sports athletes with different motor regimes (n=40). Results and conclusions. Relatively recently, the Russian Government issued a number of regulatory documents indicating the direction of development for digital sports. However, neither teachers nor students of physical education have fully grasped the concept of the development of phygital sports, which leads to the opinion that the prospects for the development of functional computer sports are weak in comparison with pure e-sports, unless educational work is carried out in this area. Promising disciplines include games such as phygital football, phygital basketball, phygital volleyball and phygital hockey. Esports players who get additional physical exercise easily cope with the risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle. With insufficient physical activity, esports players develop functional disorders of the respiratory system, which in the long term may prevent them from achieving high sports results. © 2025, Teoriya i praktika fizicheskoy kul'tury i sporta.
