A large-scale dataset of pre- and postsurgical MRI data from patients with chronic trigeminal neuralgia

The study of chronic pain is a priority in contemporary medical science because of its significant social importance. In this article, we present a large dataset of neuroimaging data from patients with chronic trigeminal neuralgia (112 patients and 48 healthy subjects). The majority of patients underwent surgical treatment either in the form of microvascular decompression or percutaneous interventions (radiofrequency rhizotomy and balloon compression). The remaining patients were observed on an outpatient basis at the neurosurgical hospital (n = 9). Follow-up data six months after treatment were available for 58 patients. In addition to the MRI data, the dataset consists of clinical and demographic information about the patients, including the type, intensity, and side of pain; duration of the disease; and data on pharmacological treatment. By utilizing this dataset, researchers have the opportunity to conduct a detailed examination of the morphometric, tractographic, and functional changes in the brains of patients, allowing them to independently define the focus of their specific research interests. © The Author(s) 2025.
