Origins of obesity

The epidemic of obesity has spread rapidly among adults and children. Current prevention strategies are based on dietary interventions and increased physical activity. They have low efficacy and do not take into account the impact of obesity on the next generations. The concept of DOHaD (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease) focuses on the early stages of human development and includes a strategy for the prevention of risk factors from the preconception period throughout life. The review considers epidemiological evidence for early body weight programming, potential mechanisms of action, and strategies for preventing obesity in the context of the DOHaD concept. © 2022, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
