SUGAR A CONTEMPORARY POISON TO THE 21ST CENTURY

Obesity, cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks, diabetes and many others that have become a trend of medical problems in today’s world have been on a dangerous spike since the 1960’s and there is one culprit they all have in common as the causative agent. This culprit is in our daily nutrition; both consciously and unconsciously we consume sugar. Sugar, in the most minute percentage, is present in our breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A slow poison that is not only dangerous but with consequences on our health, lifestyle, job performance and physique. This article will attempt to discuss the effects of sugar as a toxin in our human body. The questions and attempt to proffer proper solutions about the effect of sugar. Could this savory substance really be a toxin? The survey about consumption of sugar was done in April 2023 at the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) as part of a research project, including medical students and citizens of Russia regardless of region, religion and culture. Students from the age bracket of 18-30 years old. 71 people participated in the survey. 93% of the participants were the age of 18-22, while the other 4% were within the age of 22-25. About 2,7% of the participants were in the age bracket of - 26-29 and above 30 - 2,7%. The survey questions varied from the consumption of certain products in breakfast, the frequency and quality of active exercise and the consumption of fast food. Nutritional value of products being consumed are part of the conclusion in the survey.
