The influence of The non-alcoholic fatty the liver disease on the trace element content in liver of rats

The non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is defined as hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome and considered to be the commonest liver disease in the world. Taking into account the role of trace elements in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome, obesity and hepatic diseases the influence of diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease on trace elements content in liver of rats was assessed. In total 56 female Wistar rats with equal body weight were used in the present experiment for 6 weeks. The animals were divided into two groups according to a feeding status: a control group of animals was fed a standard diet (10% calories from fat) whereas the rats from an experimental group were given high-calorie diet (HCD) (60% calories from fat in chow and 10% sucrose solution). The obtained data showed that NAFLD resulted in significant disturbances of the liver trace elements homeostasis in rats. High calorie feeding resulted in a significant decrease in hepatic Co, Cu, I, Li, Mn, Se, Zn levels. However, only Mn and Se levels remained reduced after the adjustment for total protein.
