An ECR source of multiply charged ions HELIOS-12A

We describe a Hot Electron Layer Ion Source (HELIOS) working in the 12 cm wavelength band on the electron cyclotron resonance principle. The source consumes 100 W of r.f. power. The simple mirror magnetic field is created by permanent magnets and therefore does not need energy feeding, Ions Ne1+Ne10+ and Ar1+ and Ar1+Ar15+ were obtained with the total current extracted 50-300 μA. To extract ions, the source itself does not need to be maintained at a high extracting voltage. © 1984.
