Summary While the main objective of breeding is to improve the quality, diversity and efficiency of various agricultural crops, potato breeders in Burundi try to improve the cultivation of potato, the culture of the temperate zone, in the tropical conditions. Besides that, the other main directions of potatoes breeding in Burundi are to create varieties of high yielding, resistant to fungal, bacterial and viral diseases.
