This article focuses on the functional specifi c of modern mass media. The article is concerned with problems of the crisis in the European Un- ion in the light of the, English-speaking and German-speaking media. The authors concentrate on the following problems: the economic crisis, the crisis of democ- racy in the EU, the leadership crisis in the EU
