EUROPEAN UNION TOOLKIT FOR THE INTEGRATION OF PEOPLE OF IMMIGRANT ORIGIN

This article first gives a brief description of a toolkit for the use of European Union funds for the integration of people of immigrant origin. So far, the European Union has failed in its attempt to build the so-called Common European Asylum System (SECA) while year after year it focuses its efforts on strengthening border externalization and return policies, without reinforcing the opening of legal and safe avenues to access the international protection procedure. In 2018, the obvious consequence was a further decrease in the applications formalized in the EU territory and, one more year, the death of 2,299 migrants and refugees in the Mediterranean, the most dangerous migration route on the planet. Of particular concern was the criminalization and harassment of ships engaged in the rescue and rescue of migrants, as well as the growing practice of making development cooperation dependent on the collaboration of neighboring countries in curbing migration to Europe. Given this reality, it is of interest to dwell on the analysis of the Canadian asylum system, which currently faces challenges similar to those of many European countries, and on its planned strategy of implementation of legal and safe avenues for people in need of protection, which has placed it as a reference model in migration matters.
