CHALLENGES EXPERIENCED IN ENSURING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN GHANA

Following the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment and the 1987 publication of the Brundtland report, Ghana has been pursuing sustainable development (SD) by creating and enforcing laws that were considered essential to protect the environment and advance socioeconomic growth. Ghana, a nation with a rich history and promising potential, has embarked on the journey of sustainable development, striving to achieve socio-economic progress while preserving its environment and culture. This paper examines the significant challenges that Ghana has been facing on its path toward sustainability, addressing economic, environmental, social, and governance issues that need attention for successful sustainable development.
