Biopsy of the sentinel lymph node and targeted axillary lymph node dissection in patients with breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy

After neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), patients with locally advanced breast cancer can show a complete morphopathological response not only in the breast, but also in the lymph nodes. There is now an ongoing discussion about the optimal volume of a surgical intervention in this category of patients. Targeted axillary dissection (TAD), a new technique, has been introduced in addition to axillary lymph node dissection and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). This paper provides an overview of the most important studies on the efficiency and safety of SLNB and TAD in patients after NACT. © 2022, Media Sphera Publishing Group. All rights reserved.
