Testing Bicompact Schemes for the One-Dimensional Maxwell Equations in Stratified Media

Abstract: Bicompact schemes for the system of one-dimensional Maxwell equations in the stationary and nonstationary cases are tested. A number of representative benchmark problems that have exact generalized solutions are solved numerically. Some of them are considered for the first time. Comparison with the most popular well-known approaches—finite difference method in the time domain and the finite element method—is made. These computations convincingly demonstrate advantages of bicompact schemes in problems with stratified media. © 2022, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
