In the conditions of modern economy characterized by high competitiveness and instability, the assessment of economic efficiency of investment projects becomes especially relevant for the coal industry. This study is devoted to the system of criterion indicators that allow to objectively assess the economic efficiency of investment in the coal mining sector. The purpose of the study is to identify and systematize key criteria, such as payback period, internal rates of return, investment risks and profitability, which allow for a comprehensive assessment of investment projects. The authors emphasize the importance of selecting adequate criteria depending on the specifics of each project and its contribution to the sustainable development of the enterprise and the coal mining industry as a whole. The application of the system of criterion indicators helps investors and managers of enterprises to make informed decisions, minimizing risks and increasing the chances of successful implementation of projects. Thus, the presented research contributes to the theory and practice of investment management in the coal industry, offering new approaches to efficiency assessment, which, in turn, may affect the development of the sector and its competitiveness in the international arena. © 2024 Ugol' Journal Edition, LLC.
