Laboratory diagnosis of «key» sexually transmitted infections. Part II

The review summarizes information on laboratory methods for the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) prevalent in the Russian Federation caused by bacterial and protozoan pathogens, namely T. vaginalis and M. genitalium. The estimation and location of each method in the diagnosis of these infections were given. It was shown that the absolute priority in the diagnosis of infections caused by T. vaginalis and M. genitalium are direct methods of identification, among which preference is currently given to molecular biological methods with high sensitivity and specificity, rapid results (compared to the culture method) without the presence of a living agent that allows the simultaneous identification of several pathogens in one sample of biomaterial and quantification DNA/RNA pathogens (Real-time PCR). The nucleic acid amplification technique (NAAT) for simultaneous identification of 4 «key» STIs pathogens (N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis, M. genitali-um, T. vaginalis), which increases the effectiveness of diagnosis of these infections, has been noted to be extremely popular in modern conditions. In addition, the clinical material for the study in NAAT in men is the first portion of urine, the urethral discharge, in women — the discharge from urethra, cervical canal, the first portion of urine. © 2024, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
