The article is devoted to the study of effectiveness of interferon alpha-2b with antioxidant (alpha tocopherol acetate and ascorbic acid) in the form of rectal suppositories in the prevention of mucous membrane infection development by fungi of Candida genus in patients at risk. Patients with a proven diagnosis of diabetes mellitus at unreached target levels of glycemia were considered as a risk group. The possibility of including interferon alpha-2b drugs in the course of preventive and rehabilitation procedures in patients with past candida infection or high risk of Candida spp. infection development is being discussed. Background. An increase in the number of cases of Candida spp. resistance to anti-mycotic drugs is of significant concern to the medical community. Type I interferons probably play an important role in protecting the host from Candida albicans, which highlights their potential importance in developing therapeutic strategies against fungal infections. Objective. To assess the effect of using recombinant interferon alpha-2b with antioxidant (alpha tocopherol acetate and ascorbic acid) in the form of rectal suppositories on Candida spp. colonization in patients with risk factors of manifest candidiasis development. Material and methods. A cross-sectional single-center study was performed in groups of patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus at unreached target levels of glycemia (HbA1c more than 7%, but less than 9%). The main methods of research were following: clinical physical examination with assessment of the mucous membranes of oral cavity and genital organs, as well as quantitative analysis of Candida spp. Colonies in swabs obtained from the mucous membranes of oral cavity and genital cavities. Results. The study shows that the use of rectal suppositories based on recombinant interferon alpha-2b has an effect on Candida spp. Colonization in patients with risk factors of manifest candidiasis development. Conclusion. The study results are consistent with the data of several authors on the effectiveness of interferon alpha regarding fungi of Candida genus and the possibility of using interferon drugs as prophylactic agents to prevent the development of manifest infection process. © 2024, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
