Background. Artificial intelligence (AI) has gained global importance in recent years, both in healthcare and in other areas of society — sci-ence, technology, industry, and the home. The AI market value in the healthcare industry is constantly growing, and the number of scientific publications and patents dedicated to this area is increasing, demonstrating society’s growing need for intelligent computing systems. Objectives. To address AI applications in healthcare. Results. It is shown that AI systems, as an integral part of digital healthcare implemented in various areas of healthcare, contribute to the ac-celeration and refinement of diagnosis, disease prediction, personalized treatment approaches, rapid drug development, and further development of telemedicine. Such systems are developing intensively in Russia, including in Moscow and other constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The advancement of this direction is of great importance in such fields of healthcare as radiology, cardiology, oncology, and der-matology. However, using these systems imposes some obligations on society to level the role of AI as a possible third autonomous actor in the doctor-patient interaction. The existence and use of AI should not be a threat to humans, and the doctor using AI systems for the bene-fit of humanity should continue to be paramount in patient care. © 2022, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
