Space Activities and Sustainable Development Goals

In recent decades, the space sector has undergone enormous changes from the creation of global satellite navigation systems to the creation of more compact and cheap technologies for space exploration and use. Private companies that set ambitious economic goals are becoming new actors. Despite the fact that space activities have not been identified as a separate goal or target within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the achievement of the SDGs is undoubtedly a key factor for the work of all United Nations entities dealing with outer space issues. Thanks to new initiatives and partnerships created by states, more and more countries will be able to fully harness the potential of space technology and research to make a specific contribution to their path to the 2030 Goals.
