The article presents detailed information on etiology and pathogenesis of pyodermas, their clinical manifestations and management of patients with pustular skin diseases. Emphasis is placed on external treatment of pyoderma, in particular with silver-containing drugs. Given the prevalence of pustular skin diseases among the population and an abrupt decrease in sensitivity to conventional antimicrobials (e.g., tetracycline, erythromycin, lincomycin ointment, and gentamicin-containing agents), topical application of silver-containing drugs in patients with infectious skin diseases is highly relevant. The author thoroughly discussed the mechanisms of action of silver ions on the bacterial cell, described the anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect of silver-containing drugs in pustular skin diseases. Clinical observations related to external therapy of various forms of pyoderma with silver-containing drugs, namely Argosulfan cream, were reported, and the efficacy of this cream in treatment of these patients was observed. © 2014, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
