Sleep breathing disorders in children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), the most common chronic lung disease in young children in developed countries, contributes to the long-term neurological prognosis of premature infants. Due to respiratory control immaturity preterm infants are at higher risk of sleep disordered breathing, while a compromised respiratory function significantly increases this risk. The review discusses the phenotypes of sleep disordered breathing in infants and children with BPD, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and indications for sleep studies. © 2021, Pediatria Ltd..
