Arterial hypertension in children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia

Premature children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) are the most prone to system pressure regulation lesions in the neonatal period. Arterial hypertension (AH) is allocated as a complication of BPD in children, which confirms its importance as a comorbid condition. The article provides on the incidence, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of AH in children with BPD. Basing on analyzed studies, authors identified risk factors for AH in children with BPD (duration of mechanical ventilation, need for home oxygen therapy, receiving methylxanthines, AH in mothers). The role of endothelial dysfunction in system pressure increasing was determined. In 37,9% of children (11 of 29) AH manifest at the age of 5 months. Treatment received 7 out of 29 children, average duration of treatment was 7,1 months. In patients who did not receive therapy, AH resolved by itself within the first 2 years of life. © 2016, Pediatria Ltd. All rights reserved.
