Modern clinical aspects of total and specific ige evaluation

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) plays a critical role in majority of allergic diseases (AD) pathogenesis. As it is known, there are 3 types of AD in modern classification: IgE-mediated, non-IgE-mediated and mixed forms. However, increasing of total IgE (tIgE) in serum is observed in many other diseases besides allergy. Thus, as publications analysis shows, previously accepted tIgE reference levels in children’s blood should be specified in further studies. The article describes main reasons for tIgE levels increase or decrease in blood of children and adults. It also lists diseases that cause extremely high tIgE concentrations. © 2017, Pediatria Ltd.
