The article raises the problems of professional training of a design student in the context of studying the author's program "Contemporary Spatial and Plastic Arts". The basic principles of the program, its content aspects and conceptual blocks contributing to the development of necessary skills of future creative specialists are considered. The used historical and cultural interrelations, first of all, of architecture and other spatial and plastic arts are stated as a theoretical basis for the plastic language as a tool for learning design planning. The topics included in the program consider both contemporary spatial and plastic arts and the latest trends in historical and theoretical research in this sphere, give an idea of the structure and institutions of contemporary art studies, art criticism, art business, architectural and design activities. Design and architecture are studied from the standpoint of high-tech media: the virtual space is conceived as a new environment. The achievements of contemporary plastic arts introduced in the educational process are presented as a basis for the development of the concept of project-plastic synthesis in the professional education system. Program testing showed that a comprehensive study of spatial and plastic arts forms an integral professional and personal feature of students and opens up new opportunities for imaginative thinking.
