Performance of sigtran-based signaling links deployed in mobile networks

Migrating to Signaling System 7 over IP through Sigtran deployment is a cost-effective solution to replace traditional low speed SS7 signaling links with highly efficient IP connectivity. This paper deals with performance evaluation of the stream control transmission protocol which is the basis of the Sigtran protocol stack. We consider an MSC/VLR-HLR mobile network segment and develop an analytical model of SCTP, based on a bulk service queue. Finally, we present some numerical results for outgoing link delay of signaling messages - one of the key performance parameters of SS7.
