The article focuses on the position of Russia and Russian higher education institutions in the global education services market. The participation of Russia and other new market players has been gradually increasing. Russia has been realising a number of state programs of integrating Russian higher education institutions into the global education space: the projects “Global Education” and 5-100. The strategies of Russian higher education institutions, apart from participation in exchange programs and joint educational programs, include opening foreign branches and developing joint institutions abroad. Distance education has also gained popularity but the potential of this technology has yet to be used more effectively. Other strategies such as education franchising have hardly been used by Russian higher education institutions abroad.
