Some features of otorhinolaryngologic pathology in Tunisia (Russian)

Due to a lack of physicians in Tunisia and the low material and cultural level of the majority of the population of the country a great number of neglected cases of otorhinolaryngologic diseases are encountered. Acute laryngotracheitis, diphtheria and other acute infectious diseases leading to development of acute and chronic purulent otitis media are widespread among children. Epistaxes, sometimes severe septicemia, anemias, allergic rhinitis resistant to treatment, atrophic rhinitis and ozena were common. Tonsillectomy and adenotomy are operations widely performed in children. Detection of leeches in the nasopharynx, pharynx, larynx and trachea constitute interesting peculiarities of diseases of the upper respiratory tract. There is frequent occurrence of carcinoma of the nasopharynx which ranks second to carcinoma of the larynx among malignant diseases of the otorhinolaryngologic organs.
