Upper endoscopy complications: a discussion of the informed consent form by the Association of Expert Physicians in the Quality of Medical Care

Informed consent (IC) for endoscopic intervention is a medical and legal document that governs the interaction between the pa-tient, doctor, and clinic. IC is informational, revealing the essence of the intervention for the patient and including potential haz-ards associated with it. According to the Federal Law of November 21, 2011 No. 323-FZ On the Basics of Protecting the Health of Citizens in the Russian Federation, the presence and description of risks associated with medical care should be a mandatory component of the IC. The Association of Expert Physicians in the Quality of Medical Care sponsored a series of events with the goal of creating a standardized IC for the speciality of endoscopy since there is now no such IC that complies with contem-porary legal norms. The result of these events was the creation of an IC in the main areas of endoscopy, including upper endos-copy, in which one of the components is standardized information on the possible complications associated with both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. © 2023, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
