The article discusses the prospects for Ecuadorian-Russian cooperation in the context of anti-Russian economic sanctions. The main evolutionary aspects of cooperation between Ecuador and Russia are studied, including the impact on them of the bipolar world, the "left turn", as well as the political situation associated with anti-Russian sanctions imposed by some Western countries in 2022. It is concluded that, firstly, at present Ecuador has to balance between its interests in cooperation with both Russia and the United States as the most important trade and investment partner that has a serious impact on the Ecuadorian economy; secondly, given the formation of free niches on the Russian market, Ecuador has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position in Russia as a trading partner; thirdly, the development of Ecuadorian-Russian relations will depend both on the global political and economic situation, and on the elimination of a number of technical problems that impede the development of foreign trade relations between Ecuador and Russia (to a greater extent, problems associated with supply chains).
