WORDPLAY AS A TECHNIQUE TO ACHIEVE A COMIC EFFECT IN TRANSLATING A.A. MILNE WINNIE-THE-POOH'S FAIRY TALE FROM ENGLISH INTO RUSSIAN

The study of comic effect in fairy tales is a topical issue today. The relevance of the article is explained by the fact that at present the problem of the transfer of comic effect in translating of children's literature from English into Russian is not fully studied. Indeed, many scholars show the interest to the category of the comic, both in linguistics and in other humanities, suggests that this complex interdisciplinary concept has not been fully understood yet. The object of the research is the language techniques of transmitting the comic effect in translating of wordplay in children's literature from English into Russian. The subject of research in this article is the translation of wordplay making a comic effect, different types and approach options for such translation by B.V. Zakhoder and W. Weber in translating a fairy tale A.A. Milne “Winnie the Pooh”. So, this article deals with the issue of conveying comic effect in translating of wordplay in the fairy tale A.A. Milne “Winnie the Pooh” from English into Russian by B.V. Zakhoder and V. Weber. We examine the use of wordplay in the translation of Milne's fairy tale “Winnie-the-Pooh” by B.V. Zakhoder and V. Weber to solve this problem. Moreover, we were raised the following problems: What are the features of wordplay to convey a comic effect in a fairy tale? What audience do translators use wordplay in this fairy tale for? How do B.V. Zakhoder and V. Weber translate and convey the comic effect? Wordplay is used to generate a comic effect based on a conscious violation of the functional and semantic laws of the use of language forms. The reasons for difficulties in translating language techniques are mismatch of semantic structures of words in different languages, mismatch of connotative components of their meanings, mismatch of the volume of background knowledge among speakers of different languages. It is possible to distort the communicative intent and introduce meanings into the translating text in choosing a language tool in a translation that reflect the translation subjectivity and differ from the meanings which appear in the original text.
