CULTURAL AND NATIONAL MARKING OF PROSODIC MEANS IN BUSINESS ENGLISH

Speech culture is as a complex unity of communicative qualities, normative, ethical and aesthetic tendencies existing in a particular culture.Phonetic culture is a complex unity of knowledge of communication tactics, rules of functioning sounding speech units in different communicative situations, as well as the ability to use acoustic, articulatory, rhythmic, melodic, accentuating, temporal means, modal and emotional specifics etc. to create the necessary communicative effect in the communicative process.Currently, there is only a small number of studies examining prosody as a culturally conditioned phenomenon. Most of the works of the linguoculturological plan are focused on the study of lexical and grammatical problems of the language. Prosody as part of the language system is also a component of culture, reporting along with other language tools culturally specific information and exploring some features of the national mentality.Failures in intercultural communication are often associated with errors in the choice of prosodic means of speech. Another important reason to consider means of prosody as a cultural phenomenon relates to the problem of awareness / unawareness, controllability / non-controllability of prosodic contours, because native speakers rarely think about the high-rise characteristics of their speech, as well as about the choice of the tempo necessary for the transmission of certain values and information.Current research is aimed at studying the problem of conscious choice of prosodic means and the identification of certain prosodic patterns in British, American and Australian national variant of the English language as part of the behavioral stereotypes that characterize the general speech culture.
