The complex nature of socio-economic processes requires the use of new tools for analytics and current management. It is necessary to expand the list of sources of information for the management of the territory. The purpose of the study is to analyze the experience of using the data created by the population in social networks and other Internet resources in the management of the territory. The authors point to the potential use of data from new sources and formulate existing restrictions on their use. The application of information from social networks, involving the population in creating data in combination with large data technologies, makes it possible to move from automating routine business processes in the authorities to forecasting and determining trends in the development of the territory.
