Mermaids and Rusalki: lingua-cultural comparative study

This article highlights, in brief, mermaids and their counterparts, the mythical Slavic rusalki in the European and Slavic mythologies, and cultures, shedding light on their origins, characteristics, and the way they were depicted in literature and folklore. The article goes through the concepts of mermaids and rusalki to define the differences between them in the literature and folklore of some European and Slavic countries. In the course of the study, specific features, cultural changes along with symbols and ideas were revealed.
