РАЗГОВОР С В.Г. ГАКОМ О ПЕРЕВОДОВЕДЕНИИ В XXI ВЕКЕ

Статья посвящена проблемам переводоведения. В память о выдающемся ученом автор апеллирует к В.Г. Гаку, который в своей лингвистической концепции прочно опирался на практику перевода. Высказывания В.Г. Гака о переводе соотносятся с пятью парадоксами перевода, высказанными в книге Т. Сейвори «Искусство пере-вода». Используя свой многолетний переводческий опыт, автор статьи иллюстрирует теоретические положения практическими примерами. При этом цитаты берутся как из научной литера-туры (история, искусствоведение), так и из прессы. XXI век попал в название статьи неслучайно. Дело в том, что труды цитируемых авторов появились в докомпьютерное время. Сейчас для того, чтобы дать точный перевод не только с точки зрения грамма-тики, но и с точки зрения содержания, необходимо обращаться к дополнительной информации по данной проблематике. Современные средства поиска значительно облегчают эту задачу, но при этом не рекомендуется пользоваться услугами компьютерного переводчика. Компьютер помогает получить информацию, но не вы-полнить перевод. Автор статьи подробно объясняет выбор того или иного переводческого приема, основанного на изучении дополнительных материалов по теме. Мы подробно останавливаемся на проблеме соотношения формы и содержания при переводе, рассматривая существенную переводческую ошибку - буквализм. В конце статьи указывается на то, что в XXI веке наука о переводе вступает в креативную полосу своего развития.

TALKING WITH V.G. GAK ON TRANSLATION THEORY AND PRACTICE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

The article deals with translation theory and practice. Within the framework of Readings from Gak in commemoration of the outstanding scholar, the author addresses to V.G. Gak who based himself fundamentally on translation practice in his linguistic concept. V.G. Gak's conclusions on trans-lation correlate with the five translation paradoxes suggested by T. Savory in his “The Art of Translation”. Based on her long-term translation experience, the author of the article illustrates each theoretical issue using an application ex-ample. In this context, the citations are given both from the scientific literature (history, art criticism) and print media. The 2Ist century in the title of the article is not mentioned by chance. As a matter of fact, the writings of the quoted authors appeared prior to the computer age. Nowadays, to produce a close translation not only from a viewpoint of grammar but also from a viewpoint of content, one should seek additional information on the subject. The present-day means of search make the task significantly easier. However, the computer-aided transla-tion should not be generally used. The computer helps getting information but not doing translation. The author of the article explains in detail the choice of one or another translation method based on the study of additional materials on the subject. We examine in detail the issue of form-and-content correlation in translation considering a common translation mistake, namely, word-for-word translation. In conclusion, it is suggested that in the 21st century the translation theory and practice enters the creative period of its innovative development.
