"Свобода" и "смерть" на европейской литературной арене

Проблема свободы - центральная для европейской культуры. Поиск индивидуальной свободы приводит к желанию изменить окружающую среду при сохранении себя, и, как следствие, к ужасу смерти. Избрав этот путь, европейское общество пришло к краху. «Такие, как мы есть, мы смердим, ибо насквозь пропитаны эгоизмом, мазохизмом и смертью. Мы создали систему, в которой жить стало невозможно», - пишет М. Уэльбек. Есть и другой путь, когда свобода понимается не как отделение, а как единение: с миром, с близкими, с нацией. Этот путь был издревле свойствен России. Что же мы выбираем сегодня?

The problem of freedom is the main question in the European culture. The search for individual freedom leads to the desire of changing the environment while saving yourself, and, as a consequence, to the horror of death. Having chosen this path, the European society collapsed. “Such as we are, we stink, because imbued with egoism, masochism and death. We have created a system in which life is impossible,” writes M. Houellebecq. But there is another way. We believe that freedom is not separation, but unity, in peace, with loved ones, with the nation. This path has always been belonged to Russia.
