THE TECHNOLOGY OF GROWING MAIZE IN ZAMBIA AND FERTILIZER SYSTEM AS A LIMITING FACTOR OF PRODUCTION

The use of fertilizer on maize has a great impact. Fertilizer does not only increase the maize productivity but also improves the quality of maize grain. Thus, it very important that Zambian farmers acquaint themselves with the importance of applying right amount, at a right time and right fertilizer when growing maize. This can be achieved only if they knew the agronomical status (level of soil fertility, soil alkalinity and acidity) of the soil on their fields. Lack of knowledge in agriculture cannot be replaced by large dosage of fertilizer, that is why it is important to observe all empirical laws of agriculture order to increase maize productivity and economic efficiency of using fertilizer. The current system of fertilizer use in Zambia does not suit the soil status, rather they depend on the economic ability of farmers.
