Extracts from the Lycopus europaeus herb exhibit antigonadotropic and antithyreoid activity. The latters being conditiond by the oxidation processes of orthodihydrophenols by cathecholoxidase (H. Winterhof, H.G. Gumbinger, A. Rompel etc.). Now we attempt to isolate and elucidate such phenols from the plant Lycopus europaeus L. The herb of L. europaeus collected in July 2007 in Moscow region near Lukhovitsy was extracted with 40o EtOH. The extract was evapd upto aqueous solution with the following extraction with CHCl3, EtOAc and n-BuOH. The EtOAc layer was repeatedly chromatographed on the SG column using CHCl3-MeOH as eluent in isocratic either gradient regime. Eight known compound including caffeic acid ethylester, protocatechuic aldehyde, 5,3,4 - trihydroxy-6,7- dimethoxyflavone, apigenin, caffeic acid, luteolin, rosmarinic acid, rosmarinic acid methylester were isolated. The identification of the compounds was carried out by the 1H-NMR-, UV - spectral data, by the comparison of TLC data with the authentic sample. All isolated compounds except apigenin can have potential antithyreoid activity.
