Pathophysiological aspects of using the new biological material Xenoplast in glaucoma surgery

The purpose of current investigation was to analize the results of glaucoma surgery by method of non-penetrating deep sclerecomy (NPDS) with subtenone drainage by implants based on bone collagen Xenoplast. The proposed method of glaucoma surgery is effective in controlling IOP level and furthermore it improves vascularization and mechanical properties of posterior sclera, thus leading to protection of ocular nerve against further damage. The material is based on bone collagen Xenoplast, it is used as a collagen antiglaucomatous drainage (DCA Xenoplast) and as a biological material for revascularization Xenoplast. The material consists of I type animal bone collagen (xenotissue). DCA Xenoplast is impregnated with sulfated glycosaminoglycans which increase its biological compatibility. The biological material Xenoplast is resistive for biodestruction, elastic. Its shape and size could be easily modelated. This method of glaucoma surgery is recommended for the broad clinical application.
