Pediatric acute appendicitis accompanied by an infectious disease

The subjects, 5,480 children aged one to 14 admitted to the department of infectious surgery of Morozov Children's Clinical Hospital, Moscow, were analyzed. All the subjects had abdominal syndrome accompanied by an infectious disease; the character of the latter was established using clinical, laboratory, and special methods. Among the subgroup of children who were operated on the most common disease was acute respiratory viral infection. Destructive forms of acute appendicitis prevailed. The authors analyzed patients with abdominal syndrome accompanied by acute appendicitis admitted to the hospital within the last three years. A great diversity of intraoperative diagnoses in the subjects is stressed.
