Role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Thoracolumbar Spine Injuries and Definition of the Indications to Operative Treatment

On the basis of the MRI investigations of 84 patients with non-complicated thoracolumbar spine injuries, the authors proved the diagnostic significance of MRI in diagnosis of such a pathology. The method of investigation itself and the complex of pathological changes in spine segments in different posttraumatic time are presented. In accordance with the visualised anatomic destructions in spine segments, by the classification of Denis F. (1983), 38 patients were indicated to surgery with application of different implants. High informativity of MRI diagnosis in detecting of intervertebral disks lesions and vertebral dorsal ligamentum complex, extend of intervertebral hiatus deformation and neural structures compression of vertebral canal were stressed.
