ENGAGING DL TOOLS IN ESL TEACHING OR CLASSROOM METHODS

Teaching English as a second language is one of the communicative tasks that receives great interest among speakers of other languages, as it contributes greatly to civilized communication and the transfer of ideas and cultural values between peoples. The technical and cognitive development that the world is witnessing in the last two decades has represented an opportunity for learners to acquire knowledge and skills and exchange information with others. However, this technical development has created an imperative need to learn English as it is the language of science, technology and knowledge. The spread of the Covid 19 virus has led to the emergence of an urgent need for a trend towards distance education, as it contributes to access to education for all and guarantees equal educational opportunities, and represents one of the useful solutions in cases of crises and environmental, health or natural disasters [1, p. 18]. Distance education is considered one of the important means in teaching English to non-native speakers, as it allows learners to receive information and skills in the English language from experts around the world, and enables them to learn according to more than one of the different schools to teach English at a second cost [2, p. 91]. It also helps students to record these lectures and repeat them more than once, and helps in mastering the different accents and correct pronunciation methods, in addition to knowing the rules of the English language through various examples and applications. However, remote learning of English as a second language encounters many obstacles, some of which are due to the lack of good internet at the required speeds in many countries, especially third world countries that are still not able to catch up with the scientific and technical development in terms of communications. It also requires the availability of receivers, whether mobile phones, personal computers, or tablets, which constitute a major obstacle for a large number of students in some countries, because the price of these equipment is somewhat high compared to the per capita income in these countries. The problem of trusting information provided remotely represents a major obstacle in the field of learning English as a second language, since the Internet and social networking sites contain a large number of sites and personal accounts for teaching English to non-native speakers, and many studies have indicated that a large number of these sites provide information Wrong or inaccurate can play an opposite role in teaching English. The debate that exists in general about the superiority of distance education or traditional education is still the subject of research and study, as many researchers find that distance education empties teaching of its human content, and deprives the learner of opportunities for interaction and natural communication with the teacher, or with classmates, while Supporters of distance education believe that this type of education is in line with the characteristics of the current era and reduces the economic and social burdens of education.
