Weeds are considered the most serious biotic constraint on crop production. Another integrated approach that remains relatively unexplored involves the development of crops that are inherently more competitive against weed infestation. Therefore, as intensive agriculture is increasingly shown to have multiple undesirable outcomes, there is also a need to reappraise herbicide dominated weed management. This review highlights the principal factors from peer-reviewed literature affecting Yield reduction and ecological affecting from agricultural input used like fertilizer, herbicides cultivars, by grouping the factors into three categories: environmental, management and measurement. Process-based simulation models used for estimating irrigation, herbicide and productivity are reviewed regarding their ability to consider the impact factors in simulating weed infestation with respective simulation model “DSSAT, GLYCIM, and CROPGRO” used to simulate weed infestation from cropping systems.
