Bronchial asthma (BA) in children is a challenging and often late diagnosis, especially in the first six years if life. The reasons are high rate of wheezing and limitations of pulmonary function test in children under the age of 5, as well as heterogeneity of BA manifestations. The medical community and parents have an erroneous view that it is impossible to establish this diagnosis under the age of 6, so patients can be followed-up with the alternative diagnoses not receiving the necessary therapy for many years. This leads to recurrent exacerbations and hospital admissions. In a number of cases, the parents’ unfounded fears about the opportunities for children with BA to engage in sports and other limitations hinders establishing of the diagnosis of BA. The review provides information about atypical BA manifestations, errors of clinical, functional, laboratory diagnostics of BA in children and the ways to address these. © 2025, LLC MMA MediaMedika.
